HC Deb 02 November 1937 vol 328 c702
53. Mr. Liddall

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that those industries whose applications to the Import Duties Advisory Committee have been rejected are debarred from consideration by any higher authority; and, in the circumstances, whether he will arrange for legislation to be introduced providing for an appeal against the decision of the Import Duties Advisory Committee or, alternatively, an opportunity of obtaining other means of safeguarding their industries.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Simon)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which was given yesterday to my hon. Friend the Member for Elland (Mr. Levy), of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. H. G. Williams

Is my right hon. Friend aware that the answer given yesterday had two possible meanings. One suggested that the Government were contemplating a change and the other suggested that the Government were not?
