§ 32. Mr. Loftusasked the President of the Board of Trade the total amount of oil made from herrings and imported from Norway into Great Britain during the past year?
Mr. StanleyImports of oil made from herrings are not separately distinguished in the trade returns of the United Kingdom, but according to the official Norwegian statistics the quantity of herring oil exported from that country to the United Kingdom during 1936 was 10,913 hectolitres, which is equivalent to about 240,000 Imperial gallons.
§ Mr. LoftusWill my right hon. Friend consider offering inducements to the Herring Board to make that oil from British herring here in Great Britain?
Mr. StanleyI will certainly pass on that suggestion to my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture.
