HC Deb 02 November 1937 vol 328 cc724-5
68. Mr. White

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he can make any statement as to the response to his proposals for extended service and the offer to A and B reservists?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

The full effect of the recent concessions regarding extension of Colour service will not be known until the end of the current trooping season. Up to 27th October 3,477 reservists had applied to rejoin the Colours. Of these 2,258 have actually been accepted.

Mr. Bellenger

Might I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether he has any proposals to fill the places on the Reserve of those who have joined up?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

The reserve position in relation to the strength of the armed forces is not at the moment unsatisfactory, but, of course, every appropriate measure will be taken at the appropriate time.
