HC Deb 26 May 1937 vol 324 cc277-8
Mr. Arthur Greenwood

(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary for Mines whether he has any statement to make about the negotiations regarding the position in the Nottinghamshire Coalfield?

The Secretary for Mines (Captain Crookshank)

Yes, Sir. I am glad to be able to announce that the Joint Conference of the Nottinghamshire Colliery Owners, the Mineworkers' Federation of Great Britain, and the Nottinghamshire and District Miners' Industrial Union, which has been meeting during the last three days under the neutral chairmanship of Mr. John Forster, has reached provisional agreement on the terms of amalgamation of the Nottinghamshire and District Miners' Industrial Union and the Nottinghamshire Miners' Association. The terms will be submitted for ratification by the Delegate Conferences of the Mineworkers' Federation of Great Britain and the Nottinghamshire and District Miners' Industrial Union. As I stated in this House on Monday, effect will be given to the agreement reached regarding the re-employment of men at Hayworth Colliery as soon as the terms of amalgamation have been ratified by the Delegate Conferences.
