HC Deb 25 May 1937 vol 324 c250

As amended (in the Standing Committee), considered; to be read the Third time To-morrow.

The remaining Orders were read, and postponed.

Mr. Kelly

On a point of Order. On a Bill that was read out—the Inheritance (Family Provision) Bill—I heard one hon. Member who was opposed to the whole Bill give you, Mr. Speaker, as the date for it coming on the Order Paper again, 24th July. Is it in order to use that method of destroying a Bill?

Mr. Speaker

The hon. Member should have raised the point at the moment. I am afraid it is too late now.

Mr. Garro Jones

Further to that point of Order. May I submit that this is an entirely new method of opposing Bills which are brought forward by private Members. While it may not be in order to retract what has already been done, would it not be to the advantage of the House if you, Sir, were to indicate that that method of opposing Bills is not in order?

Mr. Michael Beaumont

Is it not entirely for the promoters of the Bill to see that the proper date is given?

Mr. Kelly

The promoters may not be here. I do not know who they are.

Mr. Speaker

It is too late now to raise the point.

Mr. Kelly

It is most unfair.
