HC Deb 04 May 1937 vol 323 c977
86. Mr. W. Joseph Stewart

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is now in a position to state when the South West Durham Improvement Association will be set up; and can he now give the names of the persons who will be appointed to serve on this association?

The Minister of Labour (Mr. Ernest Brown)

While I am not yet in a position to make any statement as to the personnel of the proposed South West Durham Improvement Association, I can assure the hon. Member that the Commissioner for the Special Areas (England and Wales) fully realises the desirability of appointing the board of that body as early as possible and he is making every effort to that end.

Mr. Stewart

Can the right hon. Gentleman give an approximate date?

Mr. Brown

I cannot give the date to-day.
