HC Deb 03 May 1937 vol 323 cc774-5
16. Mr. Bellenger

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can give the House any information on the discussions between the statesmen of several Scandinavian and other countries of a draft agreement on armaments expenditure, including the setting up of a joint committee to communicate direct with the disarmament section of the League of Nations?

Mr. Eden

I understand that conversations are taking place between certain countries. His Majesty's Government will no doubt be informed in due course of their outcome.

Mr. Bellenger

From the knowledge that the right hon. Gentleman possesses of these conversations, may we take it that the Government will be sympathetically inclined to consider such an agreement?

Mr. Eden

I am disposed to await a communication from these Governments concerned, with whom, of course, we are in very friendly relations, and I have no doubt that they will tell us as soon as they have something to communicate.
