HC Deb 25 March 1937 vol 321 c3069
68. Mr. Day

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what will be the total cost of warships, inclusive of guns, torpedoes, and ammunition, which it has been decided to commence this financial year; and can he give an estimate of the total cost of any necessary replacements to the present tonnage?

The Civil Lord of the Admiralty (Mr. Kenneth Lindsay)

I presume that the hon. Member has in mind the 1937 new construction programme. The total estimated cost of the vessels of this programme, including the items mentioned in the question, is about £62,000,000. As regards the second part of the question, I am unable to discover precisely what information the hon. Member desires.

Mr. Day

Will the hon. Gentleman give information as to what will be the cost of ammunition, torpedoes, and other materials?

Mr. Lindsay

Perhaps the hon. Member will put that question on the Paper.

Mr. Day

Will the hon. Gentleman answer the last part of the question?
