HC Deb 25 March 1937 vol 321 cc3053-4
13. Mr. Lawson

asked the Minister of Labour whether he proposes to take any action with a view to the amendment of the Fair Wages Clause in Government contracts?

Mr. E. Brown

It has been decided to appoint a committee to consider the working of the Fair Wages Resolution of the House of Commons of 10th March, 1909, as embodied in Government contracts, and to advise whether any changes are desirable and practicable. The committee will include departmental representatives and representatives of employers and workpeople selected in consultation with the National Confederation of Employers' Organisations and the Trades Union Congress General Council, together with an independent chairman.

Mr. R. Acland

Will the inquiry cover contracts entered into by county councils, or only those of the central Government?

Mr. Brown

These are contracts which are governed by the Fair Wages Resolution, on which action is now taken.
