HC Deb 24 March 1937 vol 321 cc2879-80
13. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is in a position to make a statement on the note sent by the Emperor of Ethiopia to the League of Nations asking for League investigators to be sent to Addis Ababa to report on the recent massacres; and whether His Majesty's Government will support such a request?

Mr. Eden

The note mentioned by the hon. Member has been circulated by the Secretary-General of the League of Nations to all members of the League. In view of the fact that it may possibly form the subject of consideration in due course by the Council or the Assembly, I am not in a position to make any statement on the matter at present.

Mr. Henderson

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that there is a precedent, namely, the dispatch of the Lytton Commission to Manchuria in 1933?
