HC Deb 23 March 1937 vol 321 cc2741-2
38. Mr. James Griffiths

asked the Secretary for Mines whether, in view of the successful conclusion of an international convention for the regulation of coke exports, he will take steps to initiate discussions among the coalowners of the same countries with a view to the concluding of a similar convention for the regulation of coal exports?

Captain Crookshank

This is a matter for the trade itself, and I am sure that it is not being overlooked.

Mr. Griffiths

Does not the Minister regard it as being within his province to urge and initiate discussions of this kind?

Captain Crookshank

No, Sir, I think it is primarily a matter for the trade.

Mr. Griffiths

Will the Minister say whether he himself regards an international convention as being desirable?
