HC Deb 22 March 1937 vol 321 cc2559-60
71. Mr. Alexander

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has now been able to give any further consideration to the question of earlier pensions for spinsters; and whether he has any statement to make on the matter?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

I would refer the right hon. Gentleman to the answer which my right hon. Friend gave on 18th February to the hon. Member for Central Bradford (Mr. Leach), to which I have nothing to add.

Mr. Stephen

Does the Financial Secretary mean that the Government are going to take no action whatsoever in regard to this matter?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

If the hon. Member will refer to the answer, he will see that my right hon. Friend indicated he could not hold out any hope of action being taken at an early date.
