HC Deb 16 March 1937 vol 321 cc1830-1
20. Captain Arthur Evans

asked the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been drawn to the refusal of the Education Committee of the Cardiff Corporation to permit the establishment of an Officers Training Corps at the Cardiff High School for Boys; whether he has any information as to the reasons underlying this decision; and what action he proposes to take in the matter?

The Secretary of State for War (Mr. Duff Cooper)

Yes, Sir, my attention has been drawn to this matter. I am informed that a number of senior boys, of their own volition and with their parents' approval, suggested that a unit of the Junior Division, Officers Training Corps, should be formed in connection with their school, but that the project, although supported by the Secondary Schools Committee of the Cardiff Corporation, was rejected by the Education Committee of that body. I do not think there is any action which I can take to obtain a reversal of this decision, as to the reasons for which I have no precise information.

Mr. J. Griffiths

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there is an anti-Labour majority in the Cardiff City Council, so that Labour is not to blame for this?
