HC Deb 15 March 1937 vol 321 cc1644-5
93. Sir W. Davison

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is now in a position to inform the House when the necessary works to improve traffic conditions at Victoria Gate, Hyde Park, will be commenced; and what is the nature of the alterations to be effected?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport (Captain Austin Hudson)

My right hon. Friend has asked the London County Council to collaborate in the provision of a roundabout layout at Victoria Gate, and I hope the details will be settled in the near future.

Sir W. Davison

While thanking my hon. and gallant Friend for this reply, which has been so long delayed, will he kindly press this matter forward with the London County Council, so that some relief may be obtained before the Coronation?

Captain Hudson

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Rathbone

Is the hon. and gallant Member aware that these roundabouts are only temporary expedients, and that the time will come eventually when recourse must be had to the bridge system?
