HC Deb 15 March 1937 vol 321 c1624
25. Sir John Mellor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the balance of trade between the United Kingdom and Poland being substantially in favour of Poland, he will make representations to the Polish Government in the interest of British bondholders against the Polish Government's declared intention of discontinuing full provision for the service of the Republic of Poland 7 per cent. stabilisation loan, sterling issue?

Viscount Cranborne

Representations on this question have already been made by His Majesty's Government to the Polish Government, who have given to the Council of Foreign Bondholders an assurance that a Polish delegation will come to London next month to give such additional information as may be desired. His Majesty's Government will continue to keep in touch with the Council of Foreign Bondholders on the matter.

Sir J. Mellor

Will the Noble Lord bear in mind that we are buying large quantities of eggs from Poland which we could do much better without, and that the proceeds of these sales are being spent in the United States of America by Poland, and that British farmers, British manufacturers and British bondholders are already dissatisfied with this state of affairs?

Viscount Cranborne

His Majesty's Government bear all relevant considerations in mind.
