HC Deb 10 March 1937 vol 321 c1153
71. Sir M. Sueter

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air when the experimental flights across the Northern Atlantic are likely to commence; and whether any arrangement has been reached with an operating company to carry British air-mails across the Southern Atlantic, as has been done by France and Germany for many years?

Sir P. Sassoon

As regard the North Atlantic, it is hoped to commence experimental flights towards the end of May, when ice conditions in Newfoundland should permit of the operation of the flying boats. As regards the South Atlantic, I am not as yet in a position to make any statement.
