HC Deb 09 March 1937 vol 321 c952
20. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in view of the fact that the National Farmers' Union of Scotland is seeking a lead from the Government in regard to the best way of organising food production in relation to Defence plans, he can state what advice is being given?

Mr. Elliot

The question of appropriate measures to secure the food supply of this country in time of war is under close examination, but I am not in a position to make any further statement on the subject at the present time.

Mr. Stewart

Is not my right hon. Friend aware of the sense of frustration that exists among farmers at the lack of a plain policy which could be really understood by agriculture in these perilous times?

Mr. Paling

Does the new policy involve any more subsidies?
