HC Deb 03 March 1937 vol 321 cc344-5
22. Mr. Keeling

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is aware that His Majesty's ship "President" is refusing applications to join the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve owing to her complement being full; and whether arrangements will be made for Londoners desiring to enlist in that Reserve to join another ship?

Lord Stanley

I am aware that the London Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve is now fully up to strength. In addition, the division has already been allowed to overbear both officers and men on account of slight shortages in some other divisions. The hon. Member will appreciate that the necessity for attendance at drills makes it impossible for men to join divisions out of reach of their homes.
