HC Deb 03 March 1937 vol 321 c362
56. Mr. E. Smith

asked the Minister of Transport whether he can inform the House about the proposed electrification of railways; and what sections of lines are to be electrified within a 50-mile radius of Manchester?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

In the area in question, electrification is being undertaken by the London and North Eastern Railway Company of the line between Mancheser and Sheffield and by the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company of the Wirral section of their railway, from West Kirby and New Brighton to Birkenhead Park.

Lieut.-Colonel Acland-Troyte

Are these railways being run by the centre-rail method or by a safer method?
