HC Deb 02 March 1937 vol 321 cc177-8
52. Mr. Jagger

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, in determining the complements of Civil Service staffs, provision is made for the normal amount of leave, in accordance with a statement by the Industrial Court in paragraph no of award 1,418?

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Lieut.-Colonel Colville)

The Industrial Court in the paragraph of the award referred to said that the Court are satisfied that the normal amount of leave must necessarily be provided for in determining the complement of staff in any Department, and that the staff as a whole may properly be asked to bear the burden of any extra work which they may be called upon to perform individually owing to the absence of their colleagues. In fixing staff complements due regard is paid to the considerations mentioned in this statement.
