§ 17. Mr. Palingasked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs the position as regards the Natives Registration Act in Southern Rhodesia; when it will come into force; and whether any modifications or alleviations of the restrictions will be made by administrative action?
Mr. M. MacDonaldThe date on which the Act will come into operation, which was originally fixed for 1st January last, has been postponed until 1st June. I am informed that the postponement is due to certain difficulties in determining the boundaries of townships for the purposes of the Act. As regards the last part of the question, I feel sure that in so far as the Act provides for administrative action, it will be the desire of the Southern Rhodesia Government to administer it sympathetically.
