HC Deb 02 March 1937 vol 321 c159
29. Sir Percy Hurd

asked the President of the Board of Trade what advantage, measured in pence per 1b., is derived by exporters to the British market of dairy products from Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Australia and New Zealand by reason of depreciated currencies and export subsidies direct and indirect?

Mr. Runciman

If my hon. Friend will let me know any particular country or commodity which he has specially in mind, I shall be glad to give him whatever information is available. I fear I could not give a comprehensive estimate in reply to my hon. Friend's question.

Sir P. Hurd

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman to observe that the question does in fact specify the commodities—dairy products—and also the countries?

Mr. Runciman

If my hon. Friend will let me know on what products he would wish to have inquiries made, I will have that done.

Sir P. Hurd

Is it possible to take measures to give fair play to British producers if we are not told what is the extent of these currency and other discriminations?
