HC Deb 02 March 1937 vol 321 cc163-4
40. Mr. White

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the duty on Coronation novelties imported into the Dominion of Canada from this country has been raised; and, in view of the terms of the Ottawa Agreement, what action he proposes to take?

Mr. Runciman

I assume that the hon. Member has in mind the steps recently taken by the Canadian Government to fix the value, for duty purposes, of Coronation goods at 100 per cent. in excess of the invoice value of such goods. This valuation, however, does not apply to United Kingdom and other goods entitled to entry under the British Preferential Tariff, and the second part of the question accordingly does not arise.
