§ 37. Major Neven-Spenceasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered representations made on behalf of the Scottish women's rural institutes and others interested in the revival of rural drama, on the subject of the cost of temporary licences for stage performances in village halls; and whether, in 1785 view of the great disparity in the cost of such licences in England and Scotland, he will take steps to have the fee in Scotland reduced?
§ Mr. ElliotI have considered representations of the nature referred to, in consultation with my right hon. and learned Friend the Lord Advocate. An Act of Sederunt made on his application by the Court of Session on the 15th instant provides that where application is made for the grant of a theatre licence for a period not exceeding six consecutive days the total fee payable in respect of the application and grant and of the relative bond of caution shall be one shilling, subject, however, to a temporary increase of 50 per cent, under existing Acts of Sederunt.
