§ 40. Sir N. Grattan-Doyleasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether it is proposed to make use of Press advertising in connection with 1786 the publicity campaign which is to be started in the autumn with reference to the Government's scheme of physical training; and whether suggestions will be invited from firms of advertising agents?
Mr. LindsayI understand that consideration has already been given by the National Advisory Council to the use of Press advertising as one of the means of publicity for the Government's scheme of physical training and recreation. Generally speaking, this form of publicity, if it is to be effective, would need to be on a large scale and continuous over a period of time; and, having regard to the other available means of publicity, the Council are doubtful at this stage whether the comparatively large expense would be justified. They will, however, continue to examine the possibilities; and, if it is decided to make use of this form of advertising, they will take steps to obtain suitable expert advice.
§ Sir N. Grattan-DoyleIn this connection will my hon. Friend bear in mind the powerful influence of the provincial Press as distinct from the national Press?
Mr. J. J. DavidsonAs this question is of national importance, will the Press be asked to give special terms with regard to advertising?
