HC Deb 29 June 1937 vol 325 cc1779-80
23. Sir Frank Sanderson

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he has considered the facts regarding guardsmen's tunics which were seriously damaged by heavy rain during the Coronation parade; and whether he can announce his decision?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

Yes, Sir. I have now received and considered the reports on this matter. Compensation will be given to guardsmen in respect of the damage suffered by their tunics. Credit is being given forthwith to the men in their current account.

Sir F. Sanderson

Is my right hon. Friend aware that his answer will give satisfaction not only to the guardsmen but to a section of the general public who have taken an interest in the matter?

Mr. Thurtle

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider changing the nature of the guards uniform so that it may be less liable to damage?
