HC Deb 22 June 1937 vol 325 c1030
Mr. Attlee

(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can make a statement regarding the postponement of the German Foreign Secretary's visit to this country?

Mr. Eden

Yes, Sir. His Majesty's Ambassador in Berlin was informed on 20th June that, in view of recent attacks on the German warship "Leipzig" by Spanish submarines, it was impossible for Baron von Neurath to leave Berlin at present, and Sir Nevile Henderson was asked to express to His Majesty's Government Baron von Neurath's deep regret at being compelled temporarily to postpone his visit to London.

Mr. Attlee

Is the question of these alleged attacks on the "Leipzig" under active investigation, and by what bodies?

Mr. Eden

I think that that point will be dealt with on another question.
