HC Deb 21 June 1937 vol 325 c843
52. Captain Balfour

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether the Tutor type of aircraft is used for training purposes; and whether it is considered fully safe and airworthy for all types of aerobatics used in comprehensive training.

The Under-Secretary of State for Air (Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead)

The flying of Tutor aircraft has been subject to certain restrictions in speed and manoeuvre, but within the limits imposed it is a fully safe and airworthy aircraft. It will be replaced by a new type in the near future which will not be subject to any flying restrictions.

Captain Balfour

Is it not right that instruction is going on in solo flying at training establishments on this type of aircraft, and, if so, how can the Under-Secretary expect pupils always to control their flying to what are termed "reasonable limits"?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

One expects people to obey reasonable instructions, and reasonable instructions have been given.
