HC Deb 21 June 1937 vol 325 c829
26. Mr. Kelly

asked the Minister of Pensions the number of ex-service men's widows who have been deprived of pensions during 1934, 1935, and 1936?

The Minister of Pensions (Mr. Ramsbotham)

During 1934 615 ex-service men's widows' pensions were terminated on account of remarriage and 400 on account of forfeiture. For 1935 the corresponding figures were 506, and 256, and for 1936 they were 433, and 207.

Mr. Kelly

In the cases where these women have forfeited their pensions, have they been brought face to face with their accusers in each case?

Mr. Ramsbotham

I understand that is the usual practice.

Mr. Kelly

May we not have something more definite than that that is usually the practice? Are they brought face to face, as they ought to be in this country, with their accusers before their pensions are taken from them?

Mr. Ramsbotham

Perhaps the hon. Member will put that question on the Paper.
