HC Deb 21 June 1937 vol 325 c846
63. Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary whether he can give the House any information in connection with the explosion at the tar distillery works in Trundley's Road, Deptford, on Wednesday night; how many people were injured; what the cause was of the explosion; and will he give any other information about the matter?

Sir S. Hoare

I have received a preliminary report upon this accident. The explosion took place in a receiver into which pitch, distilled in an adjoining still, was being run. Two men were injured. The circumstances of the accident are still under investigation, and no definite conclusion has yet been reached as to its cause.
