HC Deb 21 June 1937 vol 325 c839
64. Mr. Thorne

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can give the House any information in connection with an explosion at Nobel's explosives factory at Ardeer, Ayrshire, on Wednesday last; how many men were killed and how many were injured; what the cause was of the explosion and any other information about the matter?

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Sir Samuel Hoare)

As I stated in reply to a question by the hon. and gallant Member for Buteshire and North Ayrshire (Sir C. MacAndrew) last Thursday, three persons lost their lives and two were injured in this unfortunate accident. The hon. Member will, I am sure, agree that it would not be desirable for me to make any further statement in the matter pending the holding of any inquiry under the Fatal Accidents Inquiries (Scotland) Acts.
