§ 50. Mr. Messerasked the Minister of Health how many county and county borough councils have appropriated hospitals under the Public Health Act?
§ Sir K. WoodEleven county councils and 39 county borough councils in England and Wales have, since the Local Government Act, 1929, came into operation, appropriated Poor Law hospitals or infirmaries, or parts thereof, for use as general hospitals under the Public Health Acts. In addition, six other county councils have appropriated such institutions for other public health purposes, such as tuberculosis hospitals, maternity hospitals, convalescent homes or epileptic homes.
