HC Deb 16 June 1937 vol 325 c372
69. Mr. Sorensen

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he intends taking action to preserve the historic remains at Bursledon, Hants, of the King Henry V battleship, the "Grace Dieu"?

The First Commissioner of Works (Sir Philip Sassoon)

I regret that there are no powers vested in my Department under which any action in respect of the remains referred to can be taken.

Mr. Sorensen

Is it not possible to schedule this as an ancient monument to emulate the example of the Scandinavian countries, and to take such maritime relics and preserve them for educational purposes?

Sir P. Sassoon

It does not come within my powers to do so, but I will draw the attention of the Maritime Museum to the matter.
