HC Deb 14 June 1937 vol 325 cc5-6
5. Mr. Moreing

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has yet received the expected report from His Majesty's Ambassador in China on the present state of the Chinese law relating to the registration of trade marks; and whether the representations made by His Majesty's Ambassador in July, 1936, have produced any result?

Mr. Eden

Yes, Sir, and I am glad to say that the situation appears to have improved. I am informed, in particular, that, in future decisions of the Trade Mark Bureau, more emphasis will be laid on that section of the Chinese Trade Mark Law, which lays down that marks which are calculated to deceive the public may riot be registered as trade marks.
