HC Deb 14 June 1937 vol 325 c33
62. Mr. Thorne

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can give the House any information in connection with a man who was trapped in a service lift in a garage in Boston Street, N.W., on Sunday night; whether he is aware that fireman had to be called before the man could he released; whether the lift was defective; and when it was last examined?

The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

My right hon. Friend has received a report from the factory inspector with regard to this case. The injured man stumbled, his arm was trapped between the platform and the side of the well, and the assistance of the fire brigade was necessary before he could be released. The hoist was last examined about a fortnight before the accident, and the fencing was in accordance with the generally recognised standard for this type of hoist.
