HC Deb 14 June 1937 vol 325 cc7-8
8. Mr. Day

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the names of the States which signed and acceded to the Geneva Protocol, on 17th June, 1925, to abstain in future from the use of any asphyxiating or poisonous gases in war, and which, up to the present time, have not ratified it?

Mr. Eden

I will, with the hon. Member's permission, circulate the required information in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Day

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether His Majesty's Government and other Governments have endeavoured to obtain the ratification from those Governments which signed the Protocal?

Mr. Eden

I think that the hon. Member had better look at the list.

Sir William Davison

Have any further steps been taken for negotiations among the great Powers to secure a definite treaty on this matter, with adequate sanctions against this barbarous and inhuman form of war?

Mr. Eden

There have been no recent negotiations.

Following is the information:

Signatures perfected by Ratification or Definitive Accessions.

Signatures or Accessions not yet perfected by ratification.

Countries to which the Protocol is open for accession.

All other States.
