HC Deb 14 June 1937 vol 325 cc23-4
47. Mr. Bossom

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is satisfied, from the reports of the Meat Investigation Committee, that the cattle producers of the Argentine are confining themselves to the reasonable return contemplated in the trade agreement; and, if not satisfied, will he insist upon an early and full report so that he can inform himself on this situation?

Captain Wallace

My right hon. Friend has received no special report on this point from the committee, and, indeed, so far as I know it has not generally been alleged that the Argentine producer has been receiving more than a fair price for his cattle.

Mr. Bossom

Is it not essential to get accurate information for the public of the country who have to buy this beef? They are possibly having to pay more than was contemplated in the trade agreement, and seeing that the general cost of living is increasing, does not the Minister consider this undesirable?
