HC Deb 10 June 1937 vol 324 cc1954-5
48. Mr. W. Joseph Stewart

asked the Prime Minister whether he is now in a position to state when the Royal Commission will be set up to inquire into the location and extension of industry with a view to securing a more even distribution of production; and whether he will now give the terms of reference and the names of the persons who will be appointed to serve on such Commission?

49. Mr. Lawson

asked the Prime Minister whether he is now able to state the names of the members of the Royal Commission on Location of Industry; and the terms of reference?

The Prime Minister

I am not yet in a position to make any statement on this subject, but I hope to do so shortly.

Mr. Stewart

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there is very grave concern in the Special Areas at the delay in setting up this Commission, and the fact that nothing is being done to deal with the question of the location of industry?

Mr. Lawson

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that it is two months since it was announced that this Commission was to be set up; and, in view of the urgency of this question, can he not expedite it?

The Prime Minister

I have said that I hope to be in a position to make a statement shortly.

Mr. Lawson

Does the right hon. Gentleman remember that he said the same thing last week?
