HC Deb 07 June 1937 vol 324 cc1414-5
44. Colonel Goodman

asked the President of the Board of Education whether his attention has been called to the instruction given by the police of Worthing to children attending elementary schools in safety-first precautions; and whether he will recommend the adoption of this practice to other local education authorities?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education (Mr. Kenneth Lindsay)

I am aware of the practice to which my hon. Friend refers. Similar arrangements have been made from time to time in other districts. The adoption of this practice is included among the various recommendations made in the report of the Inter-Departmental Committee on Road Safety among School Children circulated to local education authorities last year. I am proposing shortly to communicate further with local education authorities on the Inter-Departmental Committee's recommendations generally.
