HC Deb 07 June 1937 vol 324 cc1408-9
26. Colonel Goodman

asked the Postmaster-General whether any decision has yet been arrived at as to the broadcasting from Daventry by the British Broad-casting Corporation for overseas in languages other than English; and, if not, when a decision is likely to be reached?

The Postmaster-General (Major Tryon)

The question whether broadcasts should be made from Daventry in languages other than English is under active consideration, but the subject is a difficult one, and I am not yet able to say when a decision may be expected.

29. Mr. Graham White

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is in a position to make any statement with regard to the investigation he is making into the relative merits of different methods of relaying broadcast programmes?

Major Tryon

The investigation of various methods of relaying broadcast programmes by wire is being actively carried on both by means of technical research and by practical experiment. Much work, however, still remains to be done before any definite conclusions can be reached as to the relative merits and costs of the different systems.
