Friend is aware that a Motion calling for the appointment of a committee to inquire into the question of discipline and promotion in the Ceylon public service was placed on the Order Paper in the State Council, but he has received no communication from the Governor in the matter, and he has not yet seen any report of a debate on the Motion.
§ Mr. AmmonWill the hon. and gallant Gentleman ask his right hon. Friend to answer the last part of my question, and will he call for a report on the matter?

Mr. Ammonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware of the dissatisfaction which prevails in the postal department of Ceylon concerning the disciplinary system in operation; that complaints are made that drastic punishments have been meted out to officers of various grades, frequently for minor offences, and that insufficient opportunity has been afforded for defence; and whether he will make representations that 3080 such statements as are being made by ex-Government servants should be made the subject of early inquiry?
§ Sir A. Lambert WardMy right hon. Friend is not aware that any general dissatisfaction exists; and it is open to any officer to appeal to the Secretary of State through the Governor if he has any complaint.
§ Mr. AmmonWill the hon. and gallant Member ask his right lion. Friend whether he is aware that for a number of years now there has been considerable dissatisfaction and trouble in the Ceylon Civil Service, and will he consider the communications which I have received?
