HC Deb 28 July 1937 vol 326 cc3087-8
60. Mr. Lunn

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will cause an inquiry to be made into the liquidation of the British Guiana Building Society, Limited, and, in particular, into the proposal for a Government guarantee to shareholders and the formation of a new institution to take over the obligations of the building society, with a view to saving from ruin some 12,000 small householders in Georgetown who stand to lose their savings?

Sir A. Lambert Ward

My right hon. Friend is already in communication with the Officer Administering the Government of British Guiana in regard to the affairs of the British Guiana Building Society, and is now awaiting a report on that subject.
