HC Deb 27 July 1937 vol 326 cc2855-6
59. Sir Robert Rankin

asked the Minister of Transport the approximate estimated total cost of bringing the Liverpool-Hull trunk road up to the standards evolved for it; what mileage of the road is already regarded as completed; and by what approximate date the entire Toad will be finished?

Captain Hudson

The survey of the Liverpool-Hull trunk road has not yet been completed. For some 25 miles eastward from Liverpool, the trunk road is the East Lancashire Road which was constructed between 1929 and 1934 at a cost of about £2,750,000 and is of adequate width for traffic needs. Along the remaining 70 miles much new construction may be required to bring the road up to modern standards, but I am not able at this stage to estimate the cost of these works or to say when they are likely to be put in hand.
