HC Deb 27 July 1937 vol 326 c2848
43. Mr. Sexton

asked the Secretary for Mines the total value at the mines of the lead ore produced in Durham County for the years 1916, 1918 and 1936, respectively?

The Secretary for Mines (Captain Crookshank)

The value at the mines of dressed lead ore produced in Durham County in 1916 was £80,385, in 1918 £50,542, and in 1936 £2,899.

Mr. Sexton

Will the hon. and gallant Gentleman enlist the assistance of the Minister of Labour and the Commissioner for the Special Areas, seeing that the figures mean that only 20 per cent. of the lead workers are working and 80 per cent. are unemployed?
