HC Deb 27 July 1937 vol 326 c2852
49. Mr. Rostron Duckworth

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many civil servants have volunteered hitherto to aid in anti-aircraft precaution work?

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Lieut.-Colonel Colville)

Arrangements are being made whereby civil servants will be enabled to obtain voluntary instruction in regard to personal protection against the effects of gas. In addition volunteers are being invited for decontamination and casualty clearing squads. I assume that my hon. Friend has particularly in mind the latter work. I regret that the figures which he desires could not be obtained without great labour, and would in any case be incomplete, as the scheme is so far only at its inception.
