HC Deb 26 July 1937 vol 326 c2816

Order read for Consideration of Lords Amendments.

11.17 p.m.

Mr. C. S. Taylor

I beg to move, "That the Lords Amendments be now considered."

Mr. Whiteley

While we do not want to lose this Bill, we feel we ought to take the opportunity of saying that the Lords have done a great injustice to the House of Commons in altering the Bill that we sent to them. We will, of course, endeavour to see that boys are kept as little as possible in the mines underground during the night hours, and we feel that, as there have been so many expressions in this House that it is in favour of boys not being kept in the mines for such a long period, the other place ought to have agreed to this to to 6 instead of reverting to the 10 to 5 period. We feel we must express strongly our deep regret at this alteration and the fact that the Lords have interfered with the business of the House of Commons.

Lords Amendments considered accordingly.
