§ 63. Mr. T. Smithasked the Minister of Labour the number and age group of persons registered as unemployed at Normanton, Castleford, and Pontefract at the latest date available, and the compara- 1786 places where the pits are developing rapidly or where special circumstances exist—for example, where the mines are in an isolated position. It is possible that in some of these cases the development of the pits might be accelerated if a greater number of experienced workpeople were immediately available, but I am not aware of any instances where the re-opening of collieries has been delayed for this reason. With regard to the last part of the question, the numbers of insured persons aged 16 to 64 in the coal mining industry classification recorded as unemployed in South Wales and Monmouth-shire and in Durham on 21st June last were 30,482 and 13,893, respectively.
Mr. GriffithsWill the hon. Gentleman circulate that report to all Departments of the Government in order to prevent Members of the Government making misleading statements on this matter?
