HC Deb 07 July 1937 vol 326 cc336-7
35. Mr. E. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Transport whether, arising out of the Swanley and Battersea accidents, he will institute a thorough inquiry into the merits of wood and steel coaches?

Mr. Burgin

Coaches of modern design embody steel to the extent of 75 to 80 per cent. of their weight. I do not think any useful purpose would be served by instituting a special inquiry. The question is constantly under review, and the position was explained at some length in another place on 20th April last.
