HC Deb 05 July 1937 vol 326 cc13-4
12. Mr. McEntee

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has considered the copy sent to him of a German propaganda leaflet now being distributed in this country purporting to be part of a radio address by one Roland E. Strunk, a German Press correspondent, issued by the Fichte Association, Fichte Bund, printed in Hamburg and marked "No. 942, English"; and what steps he proposes to take in the matter?

Mr. Eden

I have read the leaflet of which the hon. Member was good enough to send me a copy, but I do not consider that it calls for any action on my part.

Mr. McEntee

Does not the right hon. Gentleman agree that literature of this kind makes it difficult to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the country, and ought not some action to be taken to prevent its importation?

Mr. Eden

The hon. Member will appreciate that the entry of propaganda into this country is not a matter for the Foreign Office. I am only concerned with whether or not the propaganda is directed against this country.

Mr. McEntee

Is it not directed against a friendly nation, and therefore calls for some action?
