§ 2. Mr. James Griffithsasked the Minister of Labour how many areas have been certified under the provisions of the Special Areas (Amendment) Act, 1937; how many site companies have been formed; and what progress has been made in regard to them?
§ Mr. E. BrownIt is an essential condition of assistance to an area certified under Section 5 of this Act that a site company should be formed. I understand that the question of establishing a site company is under consideration in several areas, but in no case has the matter yet reached a stage at which an application that the area should be certified can usefully be considered.
§ Mr. GriffithsCan the right hon. Gentleman say whether, in view of the experience of the provisions of this Act, there is any possibility of certifying these areas?
§ Mr. BrownI can add nothing to what I have said, except that I know that in several areas active consideration is now being given to the matter.
§ Mr. GriffithsAnd nothing has been done.
